Unlike most of the FPS games around the market in Rust weapons wears out. Meaning that your weapon will stop to work after having shot a lot of bullets and you will need to repair it. Moreover each time you repair your weapon it lifespan will be shorter. Have you ever asked to yourself how many bullets you can shoot with a weapon before it brakes? well here is the answer to this question for almost all the weapons in Rust.
Most of the weapons will last 400 shoots, automatic rifles 600. The M249 has an overkill ability to shot 2000 rounds, while the powerful L96 "just" 240.
Is worth to mention that using 5.56 Explosive Ammo will wear out your weapon very quickly, with those ammunition your weapon will fire only ⅓ of regular cartridge. A SAR will be able to shot only 134 bullets compared to 400, that's enough to brake two metal sheet doors.
Weapons can be repaired using the Repair Bench. Each time a weapon is repaired it will lose 20% of its current durability. This means that over time the weapon will exponentially decrease the number of bullets it can shot. If you're nerd enough to know exactly how many bulltes a SAR repaired 4 times can shoot, well, here you can select the weapon and have a detailed table of wear progression.
Fun fact of Rust is that after you have repaired a weapon 15 times the game won't allow you to reapir it another time. When you fire the last bullet the weapon will simply be destroied, bullets and attachments included!!!
